American University of Sharjah architecture graduate Maitha Al Hammadi won the 2022 award recognising outstanding innovation and achievement by young Emiratis in the fields of sustainable design and architecture, for her work “Agro-Industrial Tourism.” The ambitious project links the UAE’s tourism infrastructure with agriculture and food security while creatively weaving a space for tourism and leisure into a landscape of production, hybridizing the beauty and utility of the date palm plantation and the Arabian Desert.
