Presented in partnership with New York University Abu Dhabi, the award gives UAE undergraduates and recent graduates the chance to create a work of art that, in the spirit of Christo and Jeanne-Claude’s work, can be publicly exhibited and enjoyed.
The Christo and Jeanne-Claude Award winning work has been revealed, ‘Sila’ meaning ‘connect’, by young artists from the American University of Sharjah, Falwah Alhouti, Ibrahim Abdellatif and Omer Al Raee, taking inspiration from the UAE’s cultural heritage and folklore – important elements of our nation’s identity – and embodies artistic creativity contributing to unity and community solidarity through the arts.
The enchanting winning artwork from “The Christo and Jeanne-Claude Award 2018” finally unveiled at the NYU Abu Dhabi. The Christo and Jeanne-Claude Award, under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Shamsa Bint Hamdan Al Nahyan, is an art award presented by NYU Abu Dhabi in partnership with #ADMAF. Open to UAE-based students, and graduates within the last five years, the Award was established to encourage the creation of new artwork in the UAE, to act as a launching pad for visual artists across the Emirates and to offer the winner an insight into professional life as an artist from commission to exhibition.
The team have been on the road, visiting universities across the seven Emirates. Introducing students to ADMAF’s awards, grants and professional opportunities, the roadshow informed and inspired the next generation of creative voices.
