Christo & Jeanne-Claude Award Winner 2023
Under the Patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Shamsa bint Hamdan Al Nahyan, presented by New York University Abu Dhabi and in partnership with Abu Dhabi Music & Arts Foundation (ADMAF).
The 11th edition of the award, held in partnership with NYUAD under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Shamsa bint Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Nahyan was won by NYUAD graduate students Majd Alloush and Vivi Zhu, and University of Sharjah graduate Hala El Abora. Their submission ‘Shaheeq’ pays tribute to the UAE’s mangrove ecosystems, encouraging appreciation for the natural solutions they offer in the face of growing climate concerns.

Established to nurture artistic talent in the United Arab Emirates, the annual Christo & Jeanne-Claude Award is produced in collaboration with The NYUAD Art Gallery.
The Award is given for the proposal and creation of an artwork that, in the spirit of Christo and Jeanne-Claude’s work, can be publicly exhibited and enjoyed.
The 2023 award-winning artwork ‘Shaheeq’ was produced in collaboration with The NYUAD Art Gallery and unveiled 21 November at a special ceremony at Abu Dhabi Art, in the presence of esteemed guests and dignitaries. Following the conclusion of the art fair, the installation was transported to Umm Al Emarat Park.
